The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Abuja today revealed a new visa policy that allows direct issuance of visas to Nigerian businessmen. This initiative simplifies travel procedures and fosters stronger economic collaboration between Turkey and Nigeria.

The Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Under the updated arrangement, the embassy can now grant visas on site under specific conditions, eliminating the need for prior clearance from Turkey. This change addresses longstanding frustrations with visa processes that have hindered business travel.

Ambassador Poroy emphasized the policy's role in unlocking untapped economic potential. "At the embassy, we can give directly, under certain conditions, their visa. This is an important first step," he stated. He highlighted how the move will enhance people to people and business to business contacts, noting that both nations lag behind their full collaborative capabilities.

Minister Wike welcomed the development and praised Turkey's efforts to ease visa access. "Now that you have taken steps, we commend that, so businessmen who want to go to Turkey will not find it difficult," Wike remarked. He pledged Nigeria's commitment to creating a conducive environment for Turkish businesses and expressed interest in deeper ties with cities like Istanbul.

This policy builds on ongoing diplomatic efforts, including plans to establish a Turkish Consulate-General in Lagos once internal procedures conclude. Officials from both sides expressed optimism about future partnerships that will drive mutual growth.

The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey encourages eligible Nigerian businessmen to contact the Abuja office for visa applications. This step marks a significant advancement in bilateral relations, promising increased trade and investment opportunities.
