Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has issued a strong message to officers of the Nigeria Police Force, urging them to reject political manipulation and resist being used as instruments of oppression against ordinary citizens.

In a statement released on Monday, Sowore condemned what he described as the systemic exploitation of police officers by corrupt political elites who, despite their wealth and influence, fail to improve the welfare of the security personnel they depend on.

Sowore noted that many police officers are subjected to poor working conditions, forced to finance their operational motorcycles through loan schemes, and often put their lives on the line for politicians who enrich themselves at the expense of Nigerians.

“You kill big thieves in political offices who oppress you and force you to buy motorcycles on loan. It’s time to wake up and stop serving those who do not care about your lives or your families,” Sowore said.

He stressed that the police should prioritize the protection of citizens rather than defending corrupt officials. According to him, the country cannot progress when security agencies are weaponized to silence dissent and shield individuals accused of massive looting and abuse of power.

Sowore called on officers to stand on the side of justice, uphold their constitutional duties, and demand better welfare, improved equipment, and dignified working conditions from the government.

He further urged the public to support genuine reforms that will professionalize the police force, eliminate systemic corruption, and ensure that law enforcement agencies operate independently and in the interest of all Nigerians.
