The Federal Government of Nigeria today reaffirms the integrity and authenticity of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025. Officials confirm that no changes have occurred to the tax laws since President Bola Tinubu signed them on June 26, 2025.

Furthermore, only one official version exists, as gazetted and distributed through proper channels. This statement addresses recent allegations of tampering and aims to restore public confidence in the reform process.

The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 consolidates over a dozen federal tax laws into a unified statute. It replaces outdated legislation and introduces measures to streamline tax administration, reduce burdens on small businesses, and promote economic growth. The Act takes effect on January 1, 2026, and focuses on fair taxation while protecting low-income earners and small enterprises from undue increases.

"The Federal Government stands firm on the transparency of this process," states Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. "We recognize concerns from lawmakers and the public. However, we assure Nigerians that the laws remain unchanged from what the National Assembly passed. Any circulating documents suggesting otherwise are inaccurate and unauthorized."

The Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, chaired by Taiwo Oyedele, leads the implementation. The committee designs the reforms to foster a business-friendly environment. For instance, the Act exempts small businesses with annual turnover below N50 million from certain taxes and simplifies compliance for workers earning up to N800,000 annually. These provisions aim to boost revenue without stifling growth.

In response to opposition claims, including calls from the People's Redemption Party for impeachment proceedings, the Presidency dismisses such allegations as baseless. "We invite all stakeholders to verify the official gazetted copy available on the Federal Inland Revenue Service website," adds Idris. "Collaboration, not confrontation, will ensure these reforms succeed for all Nigerians."

The Federal Government encourages citizens, businesses, and media to rely on official sources for information. It commits to ongoing dialogue with the National Assembly and civil society to address any genuine concerns. This approach underscores the administration's dedication to good governance and economic stability.
