George Conway, a prominent attorney and outspoken advocate for democratic principles and the rule of law, today filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run for the United States House of Representatives in New York's 12th Congressional District.
Conway, who has emerged as a leading critic of authoritarian tendencies in American politics, will seek the Democratic nomination in the upcoming primary election.
Conway's decision to enter the race comes as longtime incumbent Rep. Jerry Nadler announces his retirement, opening a competitive field in one of New York City's most influential districts. Known for his legal expertise and his role in co-founding The Lincoln Project, Conway has spent years championing accountability, bipartisanship, and the defense of democratic institutions.
His campaign will focus on restoring faith in government, combating political extremism, and addressing key issues facing New Yorkers, including economic inequality, climate resilience, and judicial integrity.
"I am running for Congress because our democracy is at a crossroads," said George Conway. "For too long, we've seen the erosion of norms and the rise of division driven by self-serving leaders.”
“As a lifelong Republican who has witnessed the dangers of unchecked power firsthand, I am proud to join the Democratic Party in this fight. New York's 12th District deserves a representative who will put principles over party, fight for working families, and stand up to threats against our Constitution. Together, we can build a stronger, more united America."
Conway's entry into the race adds a high-profile voice to an already crowded Democratic primary, which includes candidates such as Parkland shooting survivor and gun control advocate David Hogg, and Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy.
Conway brings a unique perspective as a former conservative who has publicly broken with his party's direction under former President Donald Trump, earning widespread recognition for his commentary on legal and political matters.
Throughout his career, Conway has practiced law at top firms, argued cases before the Supreme Court, and contributed to public discourse through writings in major outlets like The Atlantic and The New York Times. He is also known for his family ties married to Kellyanne Conway, a former senior advisor to President Trump yet has maintained an independent stance on issues of national importance.
The primary election is scheduled for June 2026, with the general election following in November. Conway's campaign headquarters will be based in Manhattan, and he plans to launch a series of town halls and community events in the coming weeks to connect with voters.
