Guinea's military leader, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, secures victory in the presidential election with 86.72 percent of the vote, according to provisional results announced by the electoral commission.

This win grants him an absolute majority in the first round, marking a significant shift four years after he led a coup that ousted former President Alpha Conde. Doumbouya, who initially promised a swift transition to civilian rule and vowed not to run for office, reverses his stance by participating in the election.

The vote occurs amid widespread opposition boycotts, with major political figures and parties refusing to participate due to concerns over fairness and transparency. Despite these challenges, the electoral process proceeds, and results now await validation from Guinea's Supreme Court.

The election draws international attention, as it signals the end of the transitional military government established post 2021 coup. Observers note high voter turnout in some regions, but critics argue the process lacks inclusivity. Doumbouya's administration pledges reforms in governance, economy, and security, aiming to stabilize the West African nation rich in minerals like bauxite.

In a statement following the announcement, Doumbouya expresses gratitude to the Guinean people and commits to unity and development. "This victory belongs to all Guineans who believe in a prosperous future," he says. However opposition leaders condemn the outcome, calling for protests and international intervention to ensure democratic standards.

The international community, including the African Union and ECOWAS, monitors the situation closely. They urge peaceful resolution and adherence to constitutional norms as Guinea navigates this pivotal moment.
