The Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) today announced that all outstanding bonuses for the Super Eagles national football team have been fully approved, with payment processes already in motion. This development comes amid preparations for the team's crucial matches in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 tournament.
NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko confirmed the approval during a recent briefing, emphasizing the government's commitment to supporting Nigerian athletes. “The president approved the entire AFCON budget on November 14, 2025.
From our end, the funding has been fully cleared,” Dikko stated. He further assured that the payments are being expedited to ensure the team remains focused on their performance without distractions.
The Super Eagles, who have advanced to the Round of 16 in AFCON 2025, are set to receive bonuses including a reported $30,000 per player for this milestone. This financial support is part of a broader budget allocation aimed at enhancing Nigeria's sports infrastructure and athlete welfare.
Dikko clarified that while initial delays were due to administrative processes, the bulk funding approved by President Bola Tinubu covers not only AFCON but also other national sports initiatives.
The NSC reiterated its dedication to resolving any lingering concerns promptly, urging fans and stakeholders to rally behind the Super Eagles as they face upcoming challenges, including a highly anticipated clash against Algeria. “Our athletes deserve the best, and we are ensuring they get it,” Dikko added.
