Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic cleric based in Kaduna, today issued a statement categorically denying viral claims that he was targeted by United States airstrikes conducted against terrorists in Sokoto State. The cleric emphasized that such reports are based on misinformation and a misinterpretation of an old video from 2012.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Sheikh Gumi clarified: "There is fake news going viral now that wrongly claims that I said I was targeted by the US attack on Nigerian soil, or something to that effect. I never said so, and I also never thought of such a possibility. I am comfortably staying in my home with my family without fear.

Sheikh Gumi explained that the circulating video, which has fueled the rumors, actually refers to a past threat from Boko Haram in August 2012, when he was informed of plans to eliminate him due to his stance against the group. He stressed that there is no current threat to his life and no connection to the recent US operations in Sokoto.

The cleric urged the public and media to verify information before sharing and to avoid spreading falsehoods that could incite unnecessary tension. He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting dialogue and peace in Nigeria, including his ongoing efforts to address insecurity through non-violent means.
