Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully rescued two staff members of Unity Bank who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Benue State.
The rescued victims have been identified as Mr. Marwan Abubakar, 40, and Mr. Leng'en Cakop, 37, both employees of Unity Bank stationed in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. The victims were reportedly kidnapped by armed assailants in the Zaki-Biam area before being taken to a hideout.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops conducted an aggressive, intelligence-led operation that extended into a forest location in Gborgbor Village, within the general area bordering Taraba State.
In a swift and coordinated raid, the troops stormed the kidnappers' hideout, forcing the criminals to abandon their captives and flee into the bush.
The two victims were recovered unharmed and have since been evacuated to a safe location for medical evaluation, debriefing, and necessary support. They are reported to be in stable condition.
The Force Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops for their professionalism, rapid response, and dedication to safeguarding lives and property in the North-Central region.
He reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army and sister security agencies to sustain offensive operations against kidnapping syndicates, bandits, and other criminal elements disrupting peace in Benue and neighboring states.
"We remain resolute in our mission to deny criminal elements freedom of action and ensure the safety of all citizens," the Force Commander stated. "This successful rescue underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency collaboration."
The Nigerian Army urges members of the public to continue providing timely and actionable information to security forces through established channels. Efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
