Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, has declared that he is seriously considering casting his vote for activist and African Action Congress (AAC) leader, Omoyele Sowore, in the 2027 presidential election.
In a recent interview, Lawal categorically ruled out supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), citing deep dissatisfaction with the current political arrangements and leadership options within those platforms.
“I have looked at the options carefully. I may vote for Sowore in 2027. I have ruled out APC, ADC, and NDC,” Lawal stated.
The former SGF, who recently disengaged from the ADC, expressed frustration with the recycled political class and what he described as a lack of genuine alternatives capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges. He emphasized that his potential support for Sowore stems from a desire for a bold, disruptive voice capable of challenging the status quo, rather than aligning with familiar political establishments.
Babachir Lawal noted that while he had previously engaged with opposition platforms in the search for credible leadership, he has become disillusioned with the internal dynamics and perceived lack of vision in those groups.
This position underscores a growing sentiment among some political stakeholders who are looking beyond traditional party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections. Lawal’s comments have sparked discussions about voter realignment and the appeal of non-mainstream candidates in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
Babachir Lawal reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s progress and called on citizens to critically evaluate all candidates based on competence, integrity, and the ability to deliver tangible results, rather than party loyalty or ethnic affiliations.
