Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, former Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, has firmly asserted his political independence, declaring that he is not under the control or ownership of Peter Obi.

In a recent statement, Datti Baba-Ahmed emphasized his autonomy as a politician and public figure, distancing himself from perceptions that he is politically beholden to the Labour Party leader and 2023 presidential candidate.

“I’m independent. Peter Obi doesn’t own me,” Datti Baba-Ahmed stated categorically.

The senator, who has remained a prominent voice in Nigerian opposition politics since the 2023 elections, expressed his commitment to making decisions based on personal conviction, national interest, and the welfare of Nigerians rather than loyalty to any individual.

He noted that while he maintains respect and cordial relations with Peter Obi, he operates as his own man and will continue to chart his political path independently, especially as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

This declaration comes amid ongoing discussions and speculations within political circles about alignments, loyalties, and possible realignments ahead of future polls. Datti Baba-Ahmed’s position highlights the growing emphasis on individual agency among key political actors beyond party structures or personal alliances.

Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed reaffirmed his dedication to good governance, accountability, and the pursuit of a better Nigeria, urging citizens and leaders alike to prioritize competence, integrity, and national development over personality cults or blind followership.
