Former Labour Party Vice-Presidential candidate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has disclosed that he personally advised Peter Obi to form a political alliance with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of future elections.

In a recent interview, Datti Baba-Ahmed revealed that he made the suggestion to Obi during a meeting on January 31, 2024, at John Woods Hotel. After discussing Obi’s forward plans, he recommended collaborating with Kwankwaso and other opposition leaders such as Nasir El-Rufai to build a formidable coalition.

“I personally advised Peter Obi to work with Kwankwaso,” Baba-Ahmed stated. “I tracked him and asked him, ‘What is your plan going forward?’ When I didn’t get a clear plan, I said, ‘If you don’t have a plan, sir, work with Kwankwaso.

The comments have sparked fresh discussions about a possible Obi-Kwankwaso alliance for the 2027 general elections. While Datti Baba-Ahmed acknowledged initiating the idea, he expressed some reservations about its potential success, particularly in gaining widespread Northern support.

He reiterated his respect for Peter Obi and clarified that the views expressed were personal, while maintaining positive relations with major political stakeholders.
