Veteran Nollywood actor, political activist, and former spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Kenneth Okonkwo, has issued a strong political warning to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement that is already generating intense debate across the country, Okonkwo declared that supporting Peter Obi in the next presidential election would inadvertently strengthen President Bola Tinubu’s position and agenda.

“Voting for Peter Obi in 2027 is a vote for Tinubu,” Okonkwo stated emphatically. “Those who truly want change must open their eyes to the political realities on ground. Continuing on the same path without strategic recalibration will only keep Nigeria in the same cycle of recycled leadership and unfulfilled promises.”

Okonkwo, who played a prominent role in the 2023 Obi-Datti campaign, cited deep divisions within the opposition, lack of broad-based alliances, and what he described as “political naivety” as major reasons why a repeat of the 2023 strategy would fail and ultimately benefit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu.

He urged Nigerians, particularly the youth and supporters of the “Obidient” movement, to engage in serious political rethinking, strategic coalition-building, and issue-based politics rather than emotional attachment to personalities.

“Peter Obi remains a good man with noble intentions,” Okonkwo added, “but good intentions without pragmatic political strategy will not remove Nigeria from its current trajectory. We cannot afford another emotional election. We must be smart, tactical, and united in purpose if we genuinely want to rescue this country.”

The outspoken activist called on all well-meaning Nigerians, political leaders, and pressure groups to begin serious conversations on how to build a formidable, credible, and winnable alternative that transcends individual ambitions.
