The Kwankwasiyya Movement has strongly dismissed as baseless rumours media reports claiming that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, threatened to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over the replacement of candidates in Kano State.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Movement’s spokesman, Habibu Sale Mohammed, the group described the reports as “mere rumours” aimed at causing unnecessary tension within the opposition alliance.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement, and neither its leader, is complaining,” Mohammed stated. “Senator Kwankwaso has not threatened to quit the NDC. These claims are unfounded and mischievous.”

The clarification comes amid reports of internal adjustments in Kano State, where the NDC reportedly replaced some candidates earlier submitted by the Kwankwasiyya faction to align with a pre-agreed 60/40 power-sharing formula between the existing party structure and the Kwankwasiyya bloc.

The spokesman emphasized the Movement’s continued commitment to the NDC and the broader opposition efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Senator Kwankwaso remains fully committed to the ideals of the NDC and the collective goal of rescuing Nigeria. The Kwankwasiyya Movement stands solidly behind him and the party,” Mohammed added.

He urged supporters and the general public to disregard the circulating rumours, describing them as attempts by detractors to sow discord within the opposition ranks.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement reaffirmed its dedication to internal party mechanisms for resolving any differences and called on all stakeholders to focus on unity and the common objective of delivering good governance to Nigerians.
