In a firm statement of support for Denmark amid escalating international tensions, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer today emphasized that the future of Greenland must be determined solely by Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark.

Speaking to reporters, Starmer addressed recent comments by US President Donald Trump regarding Greenland, which have included threats and mockery of Danish defense capabilities.

He reiterated the UK's solidarity with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, stating: "Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark are to decide the future of Greenland, and only Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark."

The Prime Minister's remarks come in response to Trump's renewed interest in the Arctic territory, which has sparked diplomatic concerns over sovereignty and self determination. Starmer affirmed the UK's commitment to international norms, adding, "No one other than Greenland and Denmark should decide the future of the territory."

This position aligns with the UK's longstanding support for allied nations and respect for territorial integrity, particularly in regions of strategic importance like the Arctic, where climate change and resource interests are increasingly prominent.

The UK government calls on all parties to engage in constructive dialogue and uphold the principles of international law.
