The State House, Abuja, today announced that the Aso Rock Presidential Villa is set to fully disconnect from the national electricity grid by March 2026, following the successful completion and ongoing testing of its advanced solar power project.

This strategic shift to renewable energy underscores the Federal Government's commitment to sustainable practices, operational efficiency, and significant cost reduction in governance.

State House Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Temitope Fashedemi, disclosed this development while defending the State House 2026 budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Special Duties at the National Assembly complex in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the solar installation was finalized toward the end of 2025 and has been undergoing rigorous testing since December to guarantee reliability, stability, and seamless performance.

“We are hopeful that maybe by March we’ll be able to do a full cutover,” Fashedemi stated. She emphasized that the transition to an independent solar mini-grid will deliver substantial cost savings for the government, marking a major step forward in reducing overhead expenses at the Presidential Villa.

The solar power initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote clean energy solutions and enhance energy security for critical government infrastructure.

By moving to self-sufficient renewable power, the Villa will no longer rely on the national grid, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply while contributing to Nigeria's renewable energy goals.

This project reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration's focus on innovative reforms to optimize resources and demonstrate leadership in adopting sustainable technologies.

The State House remains committed to transparency and accountability in all its operations and will continue to provide updates on the progress of this important transition.
