Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has boldly declared his long-term ambition to make history by becoming the first African to manage one of the world's most prestigious football clubs, Real Madrid.

In a recent interview with French media outlet RMC Sport, the 48 Year old Franco Malian tactician revealed that leading the Spanish giants stands as his ultimate dream and a defining milestone in his coaching journey.

“My biggest dream is to become Real Madrid's first-ever African coach,” Chelle stated. “Managing Real Madrid would represent an incredible achievement not just for me personally, but for African coaches everywhere aspiring to reach the highest levels of the game.”

Chelle's statement comes on the heels of his impressive work with the Nigeria national team, where he guided the Super Eagles to a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His tactical acumen and ability to deliver results on the continental stage have earned him widespread recognition as one of Africa's most promising coaches.

Born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to a French father and Malian mother, Chelle enjoyed a playing career as a centre-back, including caps for the Mali national team. After retiring, he transitioned into coaching, starting with French amateur sides before progressing through various club roles and eventually taking charge of Mali's senior team from 2022 to 2024, where he led them to the quarter-finals of the 2023 AFCON.

His appointment as Nigeria head coach marked a new chapter, showcasing his versatility and commitment to attacking, disciplined football. Chelle emphasized that while his current focus remains on delivering success with the Super Eagles including strong performances in upcoming World Cup qualifiers his vision extends far beyond international management.

“Real Madrid represents the pinnacle of club football, with its global legacy, winning mentality, and tradition of excellence,” Chelle added. “I am working every day to build the experience, results, and reputation needed to one day compete at that level.

This dream motivates me to keep pushing forward.” Chelle's aspiration highlights the growing influence of African coaches on the global stage and serves as inspiration for aspiring tacticians across the continent. No African coach has yet led Real Madrid's senior men's team, making his goal a groundbreaking one.
