The Nigerian Army has bid farewell to 18 senior officers who have honourably retired after each completing 35 years of dedicated and distinguished service to the nation.

The retiring officers, who have risen through the ranks and contributed significantly to various operations, training, and administrative roles across the country, were formally honoured in a colourful retirement ceremony held at the Nigerian Army Officers’ Mess in Port Harcourt.

Speaking during the event, the Chief of Army Staff, represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, commended the retiring officers for their unwavering loyalty, professionalism, and immense sacrifices over the past three and a half decades.

He noted that their service spanned critical periods in Nigeria’s history, including internal security operations, counter-insurgency efforts, peacekeeping missions, and nation-building initiatives.

“These officers have not only defended the territorial integrity of our great nation but have also mentored younger generations of soldiers, ensuring the Nigerian Army remains a formidable and disciplined force,” the GOC stated. “Their retirement marks the end of an era of exemplary service, and we are confident they will continue to contribute to national development in their new phase of life.”

The retiring officers expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army, the Federal Government, and their families for the support received throughout their careers. They pledged to remain committed to the ideals of discipline, patriotism, and national unity even in retirement.

Highlights of the ceremony included the presentation of retirement plaques, certificates of service, and other commemorative items to the officers and their spouses. Family members, friends, and colleagues from across various formations of the Nigerian Army graced the occasion.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its personnel, both serving and retired, and assured that all entitlements and benefits for the retiring officers would be processed promptly.
