In a vibrant demonstration of community policing and public service, officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command today took to the streets of Abuja for a comprehensive sanitation exercise as part of activities marking National Police Day.

The officers, led by senior personnel including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dutse Alhaji, CSP Paul Danladi, who personally led by example alongside his team, cleared debris, swept roadsides, and tidied public spaces in various parts of the capital city. This hands-on initiative underscores the Police Force’s commitment to not only ensuring security but also contributing directly to a cleaner, healthier environment for residents.

National Police Day, observed annually on April 7 following its declaration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, serves as a platform to honour the sacrifices, resilience, and dedication of police officers across the nation while strengthening bonds between the police and the communities they serve. This year’s activities, which include nationwide sanitation exercises, medical outreaches, and other community engagement programmes, kicked off in earnest today with the street-sweeping initiative in Abuja.

Speaking during the exercise, police officials emphasized that the sanitation drive is more than a symbolic gesture it reflects the NPF’s broader vision of collaborative policing where officers are active partners in community development. “By rolling up our sleeves and working side by side with the public to keep our streets clean, we are reinforcing trust and showing that the police are here to serve in every capacity,” one senior officer noted.

The exercise aligns with the week-long activities leading up to the main National Police Day celebrations, aimed at fostering stronger police-community relations, promoting public safety, and highlighting the humanitarian side of policing.

Residents of Abuja who witnessed the operation expressed appreciation for the officers’ visible commitment. Many joined in or offered words of encouragement, describing the sight of uniformed personnel sweeping streets as inspiring and a positive step toward improved collaboration.

The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to building a safer, cleaner, and more united Nigeria through proactive engagement, modern policing strategies, and unwavering service to the people.
