Veteran Nollywood actor and politician, Emeka Ike, has strongly condemned the unauthorized exposure of his personal INEC voter registration details by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing the act as the height of political rascality.
The incident occurred shortly after Emeka Ike declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the FCT under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Olayinka allegedly accessed and publicly shared sensitive information from INEC’s restricted administrative portal, including Ike’s Voter Identification Number, registration centre, profile picture, and transfer history from Imo State to the FCT.Reacting to the development, Emeka Ike stated: “It’s quite shocking, extreme, and it is the height of political rascality for a government officer to access a citizen’s information from the INEC cyber portal.
He has no right to expose my privacy.”Ike described the action as a dangerous precedent that insults not only him but every Nigerian and political party. He has vowed to take necessary legal steps against Lere Olayinka and called on relevant authorities, including the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, to investigate how a political aide gained access to INEC’s secure database.
The development has sparked concerns about the security and integrity of Nigeria’s voter database ahead of the 2027 general elections. Stakeholders are demanding accountability to protect citizens’ personal data and preserve public confidence in the electoral system.
Emeka Ike reiterated his commitment to his political aspirations and to the promotion of transparency, privacy rights, and the rule of law in Nigeria’s democracy.
