The Nigerian Army has announced a significant improvement in the security situation across the North-East region, attributing the progress to sustained counter-terrorism operations and enhanced collaboration among security agencies.
Speaking in Maiduguri, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, emphasized that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have maintained operational dominance throughout the theatre. “We have denied terrorists freedom of movement and access to logistics that once fueled their campaign of terror,” he stated in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The Commander highlighted that since November 2024, the military has observed and countered evolving threats, including the use of armed drones and radio-controlled improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by insurgent groups. These developments, he noted, are influenced by broader regional and global instability, including conflicts in the Sahel, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region, urging citizens to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts. “We are not relenting. Our troops are on the ground, and we are winning this fight,” Abubakar declared.
