The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to enforce the ban on the production and sale of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and small bottles below 200 millilitres, effective December 2025.
NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized that the ban is a critical step toward protecting public health. Alcohol packaged in sachets and small bottles has been identified as a major contributor to abuse among minors and commercial drivers.
The misuse of alcohol in these formats has been linked to domestic violence, road accidents, school dropouts, and other social vices. By enforcing the ban, NAFDAC aims to reduce these risks and promote safer communities. The agency stressed that the measure is not only about regulation but also about safeguarding the future of Nigeria’s youth.
The Nigerian Senate has directed NAFDAC to ensure strict compliance with the December deadline, noting that the ban must not be extended. Lawmakers have expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting its importance in curbing rising cases of alcohol misuse across the country.
NAFDAC has already begun phasing out sachet and small bottle alcohol products since 2024. Factories found in violation have been sealed, and confiscated products have been destroyed. The agency urges manufacturers to comply fully with the directive and calls on citizens to support the initiative for the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.
