The Edo State Police Command has successfully arrested a Nigerien national and two other suspects in connection with kidnapping activities in the state.

The arrests follow a swift response to intelligence reports and a victim identification process. A kidnapped victim positively identified one of the suspects as a member of a five-man armed gang that invaded his residence on February 21, 2026, and abducted him at gunpoint.

During an operation to apprehend the suspects, one member of the gang was neutralized in a shootout with police operatives, while the three comprising the Nigerien national and two Nigerian accomplices were taken into custody.

The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, commended the officers for their professionalism and rapid action in dismantling this criminal element.

The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to uncover the full extent of their involvement, identify other gang members, and trace any linked kidnapping incidents.

This arrest underscores the Command's unwavering commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across Edo State through intelligence-led operations, community collaboration, and decisive enforcement.

The Edo State Police Command reassures residents of its continued dedication to ensuring safety and security.

Members of the public are encouraged to provide credible information on suspicious activities by contacting the nearest police station or calling the emergency lines: 08077690361 or 112.

The suspects will face prosecution upon conclusion of investigations.
