The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) today held a formal pull-out parade at the Force Headquarters in Abuja to honour the immediate past Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, fspsp, marking the ceremonial conclusion of his distinguished career spanning over three and a half decades.

In his address at the event, the current Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, paid glowing tributes to his predecessor, describing him as an officer who brought clarity of purpose and strategic leadership to policing in Nigeria. IGP Disu highlighted Egbetokun's dedication, professionalism, and exemplary service to the nation and the Force.

"While IGP Egbetokun (Rtd) served as Chief Security Officer to the then-Governor of Lagos State, I had the honour of serving as Aide-de-Camp to the same Governor," Disu recalled. "This shared professional journey under the mentorship of then-Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos was a defining period for both of us.

It was there that early signs of leadership and commitment to security excellence were evident in IGP Egbetokun's approach.

The IGP emphasized that Egbetokun's tenure left an indelible imprint on the Nigeria Police Force, and as he steps away from active service with honour and dignity, the Force and the nation remain grateful for his faithful contributions.

"This pull-out parade signifies not an end, but the formal recognition of a legacy that will continue to inspire officers across the ranks," Disu added. "The baton has been passed, and we remain committed to building on the foundations laid by leaders like him to advance the security and welfare of all Nigerians."

The event, attended by senior police officers, dignitaries, and well-wishers, underscored the traditions of the Force in honouring retiring leaders. Egbetokun, who served as the 22nd indigenous IGP until his retirement on February 25, 2026, expressed pride in his career and handed over leadership responsibilities to his successor.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to professionalism, integrity, and continuous improvement in addressing the nation's security challenges under the leadership of IGP Olatunji Disu.
