The Oyo State Government has approved a 24-hour extension of the 16-hour curfew imposed across 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park.

Governor Seyi Makinde gave the approval following security assessments aimed at addressing ongoing insecurity concerns, particularly in the wake of recent abductions in the Oriire area. The extension was announced today by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.

The curfew, which runs daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., was initially declared for 48 hours starting Wednesday, June 24, 2026. With the extension, it will now remain in force until Saturday, June 27, 2026.

The affected local government areas are: Oriire (Headquarters: Ikoyi-Ile), Orelope (Headquarters: Igboho), Irepo (Headquarters: Kisi), Saki West (Headquarters: Saki), Saki East (Headquarters: Ago-Amodu), Atisbo (Headquarters: Tede/Ago-Are), Itesiwaju (Headquarters: Otu), Iseyin (Headquarters: Iseyin), Olorunsogo (Headquarters: Igbeti), and Atiba (Headquarters: Offa-Meta, Oyo).

Residents in the affected areas are urged to comply fully with the directive to enable security agencies to carry out necessary operations effectively. Essential workers and those on legitimate duties will be allowed passage upon proper identification.

The government assures citizens that the measure is temporary and necessary for the restoration of peace and security in the region. Security forces have been deployed to enforce the curfew while ensuring the safety of lives and property.
