The Lagos State Police Command has ruled out any terrorist involvement or explosive device in the recent blast at Mushin, confirming that the incident resulted from a mechanical failure.
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, made the clarification during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters. He stated that extensive forensic and technical investigations by experts from the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit confirmed the explosion was not caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), sabotage, or any criminal use of explosives.
“The investigation established that the incident resulted from the catastrophic failure of a pressurised mechanical component,” CP Fatai explained. Technical findings revealed no traces of explosive materials, detonators, initiation systems, or blast characteristics consistent with a bomb.
The explosion occurred at No. 19 Way Street in Mushin, Lagos State. Initial reports had sparked panic among residents and traders at the nearby Shoe Materials Market, with one person sustaining injuries and receiving medical attention.
The Command has assured residents of Mushin and the general public that the area is safe and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Normal activities are encouraged to resume without fear.
CP Fatai urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency lines, while commending the professionalism of the investigative team.
